Dear Mr. and Mrs. Troublemaker

There is something great about turning on the radio and hearing a band you’ve never heard before and thinking WOW! That’s the kick I got two days ago upon tuning into KTRU and hearing All Girl Summer Fun Band’s Dear Mr. and Mrs. Troublemaker. It was clever, fun, and left me thinking “Goddamn, I need to hear more!” I mean poppy garage instrumentation, female harmonies, and they even use a typewriter in a way that would make Lester Bangs rise from the grave demanding royalties.

Sure the album is three years old, so what? I’m allowed to play catch-up on a band that everyone else has heard can’t I? Unfortunately, circumstances are such this week where I’ve hardly have had time on the computer and I’ll even have to miss the Jana Hunter show I’d been looking forward to all week. But look at the bright side, this will spare you a big diatribe about poppy girl rock. So let the music do the talking and just listen to the song on Electramummy’s NAP Podcast this week and you tell me if that song doesn’t make your week better. If I’m a wuss for liking it, so be it.

Hey, thats what I always say, let the music do the talking. And those girls talk some good talk. that tour hearthrob song is pretty cool. And I’d never heard of them either so dont feel bad about that, three years is not that long, its not like you’re just discovering the Rolling Stones.

That Newsom song from the last podcast has a well placed typewriter, also a Four Tet song I like but I can’t remember which one. I dig the typewriter sound too. I hadn’t heard this band before either but I like the song you picked for the podcast the best, as far as what they have on their site and myspace.

Holy shit! I just had a dream that I was Scott Bakula, Quantum Leapingt back to prevent some horrible tragedy from happening in late 1964, accidentally leaving a mixtape of The Ramones, the Buzzcocks, and The Clean in the hands of the Shangri-Las. The rest is history.

Thanks, Ramon. This was a nice thing to have at work at 600am on a Sunday. And, apparently, I don’t have to worry about the wrath of the Anaconda for considering this new.

Thank you for skipping out on the show and rubbing my head and feeding me little pillows of red squishee anti-flu jelly instead.

What are you doing on Saint Valentine’s Day?

I found AGSFB on Emusic a few years back, but I only downloaded the Summer of 98 EP. I do have the “Becky” mp3 off that same record, and it’s an amazing track.

I’m a sucker for girlie twee pop though. The Softies, Tender Trap, Heavenly, all that shit slays me. My fave is Wandering Lucy’s Leap Year (also on K). It’s not exactly twee. It’s much closer to Mirah. But it’s really good. Check it out here: http://www.emusic.com/album/10850/10850210.html

Awesome album. My son had ingested some poison the other night and as soon as I played the record that you recommended he managed to vomit it all out. Thank you Ramon. You are the best!!
