If it wasn’t the Turtles doing the first suing, it would have been somebody else. As Matthew mentioned they got pretty screwed by the industry, so they deserve something for their trouble.

I am still pissed at the Turtles for suing De La Soul and ending the sampling era forever. When The Turtles offered to work with De La for a future track, they told them to fuck off.

The Turtles Presents The Battle Of The Bands is a fantastic album. I’ve never met anybody else who owns this, but when I play “Elenore” they usually say that sounds familiar…probably a lotta oldies stations have it in their rotation occasionally…it was a minor hit. I really like the country song “Too Much Heartsick Feeling To Forget”…the vocal is incredible, and I like that psychedelic thing in the beginning, the “Last Thing I Remember”…there’s some surf music later on, also a li’l hippie anthem about the environment, hell there’s even a recipe in song form on how to make pot brownies…I dig the whole thing. If you really want your mind blown, check out the documentary “Happy Together”…you’ve never seen a band get ripped off and fucked over more than these guys. It’s worse than a Herzog film.

I actually haven’t heard any of the Care Bears/Strawberry Shortcake stuff, but I sure want to. I’m not sure where I would find it. I think it’s just going to be one of those things that I’ll run across one day and think, “Oh hey, how about that–this is the Turtles.”

I dug this Justin. I always figured there was more to the Turtles than I'd ever noticed just because they still get referenced by current artists and critics.

I'm not up on my Turtles and I'm also not up on my Charlie Sexton so next time would you write about him?

P.S. Mark Volman looks like an afro'd Pat (SNL).

P.P.S. Have you dug deep enough to hit their Care Bear/Strawberry Shortcake catalog? How's that?
