Noise and Smoke Friday Recap
Most Classy Move by a Band Award: The Dimes who all came out to last night’s show. Welcome back guys. Best Performance You Never Saw Award: Cop Warmth who supposedly played a great set at 6PM on a Friday. Loopiest Performance Award: Eat Grapes whose mix of prerecorded tape loops to augment his folky acoustic performance was charming. Best Reason to Cover R. Kelly Award: Jana Hunter who, when asked replied “Whiskey.” ADD award: Finally Punk who not only had songs that clocked at under 2 minutes but no member was allowed to play the same instrument for more than 2 songs. The Gabriel Garcia Marquez Magical Realism Award: Bring Back the Guns. Matt Brownlie picked up a potted tree and threw it into the audience which immediately backed away leaving the plant to crash onto a bare floor to which Brownlie chided “That tree’s dream all it’s life was to crowd surf and you guys let it down!” Within minutes the tree was picked up and carried over the crowd radiating joy at the fulfillment of all its wishes. The We Paid For This Smoke Machine And Damn Right You Know We’re Going To Use It Award: Satin Hooks who proved that yes, you can rock but you can always rock harder with smoke. The You’re Not Too Cool To Ever Dance to Hall and Oats Award: Chris Ryan for spinning “You Make My Dreams Come True” before and during the Ka-Nives set which immediately made the even made the most hardened hipster happy. The Oh Shit This Band Is So Fucking Awesome The Don’t Need a Stage: The Ka-Nives who easily owned the night with their uncontrolled chaotic fuck the stage, we’re play on the floor, just try to ignore us performance! The Ka-Nives live aren’t music, they are a frikikin sporting match of sweaty bodies crashing into each other and you have no way to escape! The Ass Kicking Isn’t Just for Boys Award: Ume, Lauren’s ripping on the guitar makes all you rock and roll boys look like pussies. That’s all I can muster with this hangover kids. The Ka-knives rule.
That’s a smooth move by Matt Brownlie but can he tree juggle?
Fuckin’ Dimes. I haven’t seen so many bear hugs since i dunno when. Fuckin’ copwarmth graciousness and underage drinkin’. Fuckin’ Eat Grapes and Ty’s cassette tapes. Fuckin’ Gabriel Garcia Marquez and his potted plant. First time i saw Bring Back and certainly not the last. Fuckin’ smoke machines i love the way they smell. Fuckin’ Warren’s aka “the green room” and they’re fuckin’ whiskey sours and Will at DJing the jukebox. Fuckin’ Hall and Oates because THEY OWN!! Fuckin’ Chris Ryan for being a sexy ass motherfucker sound guy. Fuckin’ KaNives and the crowd surfing twins. Thanks Ramon for letting me sit on your shoulders and not dropping me. Fuckin’ Ume for making it worth sticking around for SIX hours. Fuckin’ Joey. Fuckin’ Liz. For breathin’. For thinkin’. Fuckin’ bed for welcoming me home with all its heart and soul.

I spent my night mediating a fist-fight I couldn’t alleviate.
I came home to the music. The music made it ok. I guess.
But, I wish I was the type who could use your tunes to soothe me.
I keep needing the heavy… and after what I went through tonight, maybe the heavy needs me too…. to make the rest of the world appreciate the Truly lighter hand.
That seemed emotional. How cool is it that I accomplished that after a supposed lifetime of “looking inward”?
I just watched Hollywood Land about how Superman was murdered… plus I found the Slugg song I have been seeking for a decade today. (Thanks Ledford!) ahhhh. But I can’t help but just want to fucking hate anyway… Not what I intended to say… the hating part…. Like, I have anyone else to be fucking crazy and happy for. I am happy. In some way, I am happy. And I hope it’s because Wolfman Jack gave my mom more than a look back in the day.
