{Day: Almost every day of the week.
Time: Anytime after dark.
Location: Any of the local bars that feature live music (local and/or touring acts).
Music: If the music is not good at one bar, move to the next one.
Cost: Besides the cost of drinks (which is substantial) most likely nothing, part of the bartenders and club employees code of courtesy.
Duration: Go home anytime or stay for the late night and try to make it home before the sun comes up.}

{Music: It has to be music we are really interested in, and that it’s not in conflict with other good music that week.
Day: Once a week, maybe twice a week.
Location: The club where the music is happening. Maybe with a quick pre- or post-show drink elsewhere.
Time: As close to the start of the show as possible, and no shows that start after 1:00am (unless grandma’s in town).
Cost: No substantial drinking expense means tastier drinks and more money for merch.
Duration: Two to three hour outing.}
This Saturday the Ms. and I, with tickets bought in advance for the first time in many years, will be at the Local 506 watching The Mountain Goats. Should be totally packed which I’ll hate, but 1. It’s The Mountain Goats, 2. Jon Wurster (Superchunk, Scharpling and Wurster, etc etc etc etc etc) is playing drums, and 3. It’s the 506’s birthday party celebration. So hell yeah its gonna rock.
