Death From Within

Two kids, a job, and middle age. I am revisiting my youth through a fucking reunion show. I’m starting to seriously doubt this concept. Twelve years ago now and there has been no internal clamor to get it started again. And yet, we have somehow wandered into a semi-agreed date to drag ourselves back up on the block. We can’t even get it together enough to arrange a single practice, and somehow we are going to take a stage in December and have a go at it? Fuck me.

Scott is always smarter than I am, and yet he has not completely committed himself to not doing this. There’s a trick in there somewhere, I just haven’t figured it out yet.

I don’t have any time in my life right now to do much of anything, including write. I am officially in cruise control at the moment. Being a functioning human with identifying characteristics, loves, and desires is, for the time being, almost impossible. Nice knowing you.

I’ve been playing the Gunn stuff on my guitar at home, and it isn’t exactly something found in the Segovia master class, so if we happen to suddenly become magicians and pull off a miracle, I’ll be prepared.

Don’t hold your breath.

Fuck music. Fuck this. Fuck me.

Fuck.

This week is a total wash; I’ll try and bring something of actual worth next week.

We’ll see.

i've been in cruise control myself for a few weeks... for a number of reasons. Main one i think is just that I'm a little burnt out on the blog thing. I imagine I will regain interest with a little rest, a little disatance and a few youtube link-posts.

I do think its commendable that you and your MG cohorts are attempting the ship over the mountain trick. Just don't look behind you and keep the Caruso cranked up.

Hello my friend.

Don't speak of the show again until it is upon you. Anticipation is the biggest killer of all. Shots and immunizations are nothing compared to the lead up to getting the needle. It will work out.. the show... the creative outlet... all of that. COnsidering the amount of personal energy you put into every week here, a little break from soul diving is owed to you for sure, Pukka.

Hey, you fuckers better do that show! I got plane tickets, hotel room and car rental lined up. I'll even haul equipment like in olden times if that's what it takes.

"I am revisiting my youth through a fucking reunion show." stop. STOP! if you wanna revisit your youth do it elsewhere, bub. i want to see four men known popularly as mike gunn re/interpret the mike gunn songs written long ago (and new material would be MORE than welcome). even if it comes out juvenile. but please don't imitate yourself at 25.

"Scott is always smarter than I am, and yet he has not completely committed himself to not doing this. "

by "and yet" i believe you mean "accordingly".

carlos and cramer: babies make you crazy! oh how i miss those days...if you'd like some alleviation in the crazy dept., feel free to ship me said infants. in the alternate, feel free to tap me last minute to sub for ur blogs...

I may still have regrets over the breakup of TMG, but I also think that twelve years away speaks for itself. It's like scheduling a date with one of my ex-girlfriends so we can fuck like the old days. You know, poorly. That's what I mean by "revisiting my youth."

I guess I need to clarify that I am not afraid to do this, I am wary of just how hard it is to even attemp to think about doing it. There are great forces that work against this, only a fool would ignore them.

Don't say it.

My laundry is here for all to see. Plane tickets for this debacle are a truly poor idea. Unless you enjoy the atrocity exhibition. I guess I could see that.

Wait, we're actually playing Mike Gunn songs? I only agreed to do it because I thought it was going to be all Dio covers!

And Kyle, you're welcome to carry my equipment. If I had any.

Good thinking. I like where this is heading. Actually, that show worked remarkably well. You know, all things considered.

Man, I wish I had a tape of the "S" set. The Mike Gunn doing "Stairway to Heaven" with Tom playing sax. Why is it the only shows I have any memories of were the ones where we only played covers? Didn't we do one at Rudyards that ended with me playing drums and Curt playing bass on "Wicked Games"? And I couldn't play at all, so I would just tap out a couple of bars and then pretend Curt messed up so I could stop and yell at him. Wasn't there one where every song was in D?

If TMG plays Dio covers you better hit the ELF era

If not I swear to God I will buy a double-neck Gibson and torment you all until the grave

I recall an excellent off-the-cuff cover of "Working Man" whipped out circa 1992 to silence that dude Dave from Bleachbath who always used to shout "Can't y'all play some Rush?" at Mike Gunn shows. Highly amusing.
