Kilian brought up religious music in his last post, and I’ve been wanting to bring up this band for some time. So I thought now would be a good time and, K, maybe you can add this to the list of music to send to your sis.
As far as I’m concerned if I was planning the perfect revival I would get Slim Cessna’s Auto Club to play. Live this band makes me feel like the second coming of Jesus is at hand. I can’t recommend them enough. And I consider their album, Always Say Please and Thank You, to be one of the two best religious album I’ve heard (Violent Femmes’ Hallowed Ground would the other one). Don’t ask me why my two favorite religous albums both stem from the same pentecostal-type American religious experience.
Here’s the video for Pinebox. A three part song that gives me the chills not unlike the way Elvis’ An American Trilogy does sometimes. The two guys at the end are Jay Munly and Slim Cessna. Munly is a very peculiar fellow to say the least.
If you’re like me after hearing Pinebox, you’re really gonna want be part of the chosen few when the Rapture comes. But if you are like me you know you won’t be. So what to do? Listen to the Auto Club play Hold My Head.
Damn that’s uplifting!
My sis will be staying with us for a while starting next week. I’ll let you know how our music conversations go.
Dug this group. Fun stuff. Thanks for posting.
I understand Heidi and Doug will be in the audience when the Rapture comes.
For some reason I thought you had talked about them before, and I thought you had submitted their music for the napcast. I have used Last Song About Satan for a couple of compilation cd’s I’ve made. I think you sent it to me.
My inaugural address at the Great White Throne Judgment of the Dead, after I have raptured out billions! The Secret Rapture soon, by my hand!
