Week 41: Slim Cessna’s Auto Club

Kilian brought up religious music in his last post, and I’ve been wanting to bring up this band for some time. So I thought now would be a good time and, K, maybe you can add this to the list of music to send to your sis.

As far as I’m concerned if I was planning the perfect revival I would get Slim Cessna’s Auto Club to play. Live this band makes me feel like the second coming of Jesus is at hand. I can’t recommend them enough. And I consider their album, Always Say Please and Thank You, to be one of the two best religious album I’ve heard (Violent Femmes’ Hallowed Ground would the other one). Don’t ask me why my two favorite religous albums both stem from the same pentecostal-type American religious experience.

Here’s the video for Pinebox. A three part song that gives me the chills not unlike the way Elvis’ An American Trilogy does sometimes. The two guys at the end are Jay Munly and Slim Cessna. Munly is a very peculiar fellow to say the least.

If you’re like me after hearing Pinebox, you’re really gonna want be part of the chosen few when the Rapture comes. But if you are like me you know you won’t be. So what to do? Listen to the Auto Club play Hold My Head.

Damn that’s uplifting!
