NAPcast 38

Thanks for the interesting submissions this week. I liked this podcast, even though I really struggled with the arrangement of it all. Sometimes I wish I could just toss them all on there and not care about the order. It would save me so much time.

I really enjoyed Heidi's submissions this week. Cool stuff. Also, be sure to check this episode out to hear Anaconda's "The Moment To Move" song which was discussed in his recent post. John Cramer has let me use "Seven Long Years" by Project Grimm who, as many of you know, he played guitar and sang for. Great song.

Baleen requested that I use Gertrude Stein's piece on Matisse from UBU. I hope no one minds that I backed it with some Tortoise. I wasn't sure how her piece would go over by itself, even though I support the use of non-musical additions to the podcast, with the exception of maybe 5 minutes of silence for those listeners who want to put a record on.

The track "Underwater (Staggie)" submitted by Ramon is by the musical project Hearts Of Animals who he reviewed in his Saturday post. The artists name is listed on the artwork rather than Hearts Of Animals.

The paintings used in the artwork of this episode are a couple of years old. Actually "Pile Up" which is the one on top is about ten years old. It's about 6'X6' and was done with acrylic on canvas. It has elements that are pretty typical of my style when I do not set out to create something specific. I'm not sure if it still exists. It's possible it was one of many that were in storage and eaten by rats in Texas. The "guerrilla" piece is about 6"X6" and was a paint spill that looked like an ape to me. It was painted about three years ago and resides in Sitka, Alaska. I know I have typically created collages for the podcast. I would like to use more original artwork when possible, and when I can stand to look at it. If you have any original artwork or photography that you would like to submit for use with the podcast art, please see my profile for an email address to send it to.

I hope you like this episode. I do, even though it starts with a dragged out and fairly uninformative intro. I had to upload it from home. Uploading from home means 75MB at 4.7 KB/s. That's right. File that under Taking one for the team.

Thanks to Charlie Naked for doing last week's podcast. Anyone interested in doing the Halloween cast?

Hey Justin, thanks for putting the Jonx on there. We're flattered. I should note something about this song: it is neither about nor by Trey Lavigne, except for the first sentence. It's only there to rhyme with "I play the bass, I break your face."

So he's not going to break my face?

Aww man, I thought it was about Trey. Sure ruin the image in my head. All this time I pictured him on his bike on the way to Half Price books when I heard that song.

HS - thanks for putting this podcast together. I'd just like to mention that I didn't select Meeting with Your Maker. I only want to point that out because I've been posting silly stuff about dying lately and they are singing about it but together you've got a mixed message.

Thanks Kilian.

I had some technical issue with the actual song you submitted for this cast. For some reason the song was full length in iTunes, but when I put it into garage band it was truncated. I could not figure out why... and I've done like 30 of these now, so I'm not totally incapable. Maybe someone can shed light on that for me.

I used the Maker song, because you sent that cd to me, mentioned that song, and it was the exact same length as the one it replaced. I think God is trying to tell you something Kilian.

Thanks for listening.

Getting to old age is going to be a tough one for the GenX crowd, I think. Too cynical, upset and depressed on average. It's going to be a weird time about 30 years from now.

Anyhoo... an excellent cast as always. Love some Ken Nordine. And there are always some great surprises on there. My favorite thing to do of late is listen to it without looking at the list to see how it all flows together because the next song is such a surprise that way. It's the little things...

Having not read the post by Anaconda, his songs were quite a surprise. Funny to then go back and read the story about how they got there.

Project Grimm was a surprise as I just didn't expect them to sound like that, to have that 70s influence. At least, that's what it sounds like to me.

I don't know if any of you knew the band Schrasj, but a member of that band is in the song I submitted.

I'd be willing to stitch together a napcast one day if that would be helpful. I like doing that kind of stuff.

Thanks Ramona,

The biggest challenge for me has always been the ordering of the music.

DId you like my shout out to China?

Wanna do the upcoming podcast? Posted between Doug and Heidi's Sun/mon?

Ok, So if you want to do the podcast, and you have garage band. I would be happy to help you with all of the specifics of getting submissions and all. I will also give you my number so that you can call me if you have any questions about using garage band. I figured it out on my own, and you should be able to as well, but I will be available if you want help.

That would be great if you did it! Let me know.

Oh Ramona - it's the time of year for morbidity. It's in the air and in the ground.

I don't know Terri all that well but I'm looking forward to hearing her work with the Court & Spark. I've heard about it but haven't actually heard the stuff. Look forward to hearing a lot of this cast. Can't download it until back in Chicago though.

Oh Kill Ian, it is apparently that time of the year. Please excuse my scientific brain. It is but human.
