Hodge Podge

Wow, I’ve really done nothing interesting at all this week. At least last week I could talk about not doing something; this week I didn’t not do enough of anything to be able to comment. As always, though, I have links for you.

This page of Of Montreal covers will either make you hate them more, or hate them slightly less. I have to say I wish they would have done “Rapper’s Delight” in Barcelona last year–not because this is such a fantastic cover, but because hearing it would have brought back memories of being on a school bus nearly thirty years ago, feeling small and socially confused. It would have been preferable to the seething anger I got from the show I actually saw.

Also:

The Soft Cell version of this song came out in the summer of 1981 when I was working (a term I use loosely) at my grandfather’s trading post in New Mexico. He used to listen to top forty radio on the piece of crap jambox that he had on the shelf next to the cash register. He drove a big diesel pickup, wore a cowboy hat and ostrich boots, had enormous mutton chop sideburns, and I’m pretty sure his favorite song that summer was “Tainted Love.”
