*** Manning!

Eat you f***ing heart out, Brady. Certain websites had the audacity to ask the question "is Tom Brady the best quarterback ever?" Guess not.*

And bet he can't wait to get back to New York to see his girlfriend.**

That's right, we beat Boston. And, they deserved it.***

***

Actually, I meant to go see some avant-jazz- new-music- (and these sorts of labels for great music really do blow) this evening, but had to do my laundry. My laundromat has three TVs and cable. Half the neighborhood decided to show up, though not necessarily to clean their clothes. The neighborhood bars and restaurants without cable television were decidedly empty. After folding the sheets, it was halftime**** so, I decided to venture a trainride into Noho to see some Australian friends (who acquired a bit of education up in Boston) root for the Patriots. Honestly, I'm not a huge Giants fan, but ostensibly they're representing New York against Boston. You know the rest.

***

Heard on Lafayette Street shortly after the game: "So, did the Red Sox win again?" This came out of the mouth of a woman speaking hurriedly into a cellphone while marching uptown.

***

Heard on South Portland just outside of my building: "I know you don't remember what I look like... does it matter? I remember what you look like..." This time, it was a cool guy wearing a cool leather jacket speaking earnestly into a cellphone.

*Not that this game was just about the quarterbacks- did you see Tyree's touchdown catch between his right arm and his head?!
**Ok, that was mean. Boston is a nice place to live too.
*** What I mean to say is: it was a good game.

If anybody would like to comment on Tom Petty's halftime performance, please feel free. After all, this is supposed to be a music-related blog.

Watched the game with Snake who spent many years in Boston so I had to root for the Giants even though it's the Jets and the Mets for me. Do I really care? Not one bit. Still nice close game and some brilliant plays in the last minutes.

Hey that cool guy in leather should get a second chance. That's a sweet line.

I can't believe the kinds of things I write after just two beers... Tom Brady could be the greatest quarterback ever- I wouldn't be a fair judge. Too bad he got sacked about five times.

Next week = micropolyphonies.

I have hated the Giants for a while, mainly because of their coaches - Coughlin is a top-shelf A-hole and his O.C., Kevin Gilbride, nearly drove me to apoplexy oh, only about 500 times when he was the O.C. for the Oilers. There's a reason Buddy Ryan punched him on the sidelines a few years ago. Aside from that, 19-0 would have been cool to see in my lifetime.

BUT... I have to say Eli played his ass off, though his numbers don't show it. The Giants dominated on defense, and I had to feel good for hometown guy Michael Strahan. And it was a really, really great game, one of the best S.B ever, all the way to the end.

Don't feel bad about passing judgment on Brady, Bluebird. Joe Montana was, is, and probably always will be, the greatest quarterback ever. This is painful for me to say, given that he beat both my (then future) alma maters in games with national title implications back in the 70s, at the helm of the hated Fighting Irish. To this day, I hate Notre Dame football with an undying passion, and laughed like a hyena when they went 3-7 this year...but it's hard to hate someone as great as Joe Montana was. You just tip your cap, as they say.

I thought Tom Petty was pretty good. I've always had a soft spot for him, he's a great songwriter and even his later material is better than 99% of what the younger generation of alterna-rock zombies is putting out. Plus, he plays a Rickenbacker 360 so that gives him a free pass, in my book.
