Brief and Random
Hi!
So, in helping out this week, I was going to find some other people to write. One lady bowed out, but she might have written about the Austin New Music Co-op.
Then, this guy was going to write about metal, because there just hasn't been enough talk about it lately. But he was going to write about the irony of this previously metal band mimicking a band that is not metal but is selling big in metal, or something like that.
And then I was going to get this other guy to help, but then I ran out of time.
I'm on my way to Houston for a party for my aunt and I will be sure to stop in The Cookie Jar and Sugar Baby's Cupcakes as I'll be opening a similar store in Austin and boy is it hard to go testing other people's products. Also hope to get some beer. Meanwhile, the music we constantly associate with this is somehow lounge, which to us means the type of music I specifically hated as a child, though I didn't know at the time that was the bad versions of it. The highlight is Gay Spirits by David Rose and his Orchestra.
I've spoken of it before, but it's all I think about. A dainty walk down chocolate lane with candy and tasty cake around it.
Meanwhile, found a new pie company - Tootie Pie
sorry to be so brief and random.

Ramona, Dessert Gallery off of Kirby also has good gourmet cupcakes. I hope you are not having the cupcakes and the beer at the same time. I remember one morning watching a kid at my school drink beer with Snoballs, which apparently scarred me for life.
I am available for the odd Saturday post, too, and I promise not to write about Oasis unless asked.
the cafe i work at here in austin was said to be the first place to serve tootie pie (buttermilk and chocolate buttermilk). i remember their sales rep being a grim, unhappy looking man.
i think i might be that way if i had to work for a company called "tootie pie".
what part of town do you think your cupcake shop will be in?
Thanks Ramona. I hope your Houston trip was decent.
Julie,
We have Saturday covered until mid May, I believe. You should send an email to contributetonap@gmail.com, and we'll get you on the list with a specific Saturday to cover. Thanks for getting involved.
Alaska is still cold. Here's a recipe for Akutuq (pronounced ah-GOO-duhk)... It's a dessert that natives go nuts for up here. Essentially it is lard or seal oil (which tastes like baby shit smells) mixed with berries, sugar and sometimes fish. It's eskimo icecream basically. You know that sensation of having cold fat stick to the roof of your mouth? You can't beat that can you? I mention this Ramona, because maybe you guys could start a crazy lard-loving trend.
I should also take this time to mention that if any of you guys want to guest podcast until I return to Texas-- raise your hand. I don't want dear Mr. Cramer to get swamped covering it.
Here's some alaskan music.
Here's some archived live alaskan music.
Both of those links only have a handful of music....
Here's some AK rap videos...
Don't call me Eskimo. This one is an Inuit rap. There's a shitload of really BAD homemade rap from all over Alaska. One interesting thing about it, is that during a time when languages are dying-- alot of rappers are using their native tongue proudly. Sure, they're doing it with all of the dipshit posturing of inner city gangland rap, but it's a START!
Throat singing "The Saw"
Janet & Kathy throat sing between classes.
Kronos Quartet and Tanya Tagaq
yeah, I'll get right on that lard ice cream, right after I perfect a chocolate peanut butter bacon concoction. Which I did try, and it has not succeeded yet. We are trying a golangal and ginger cookie combo. I'm pretty excited about that one.
I did not get enough beer. By the way, beer and chocolate go well together.
I did make it to Dessert Gallery last time I was in Houston. The guy working there was really nice. Unlike Tootie Pie guy, apparently.
The store should be in west campus, if all works out. Lease signing this week. But it's actually a cookie shop, not cupcakes. I just like cupcakes.
What cafe do you work at, Brian?
ramona, good luck with the lease signing. west campus would be great cause i live nearby in hyde park. i promise to show up and buy something.
i cook at magnolia cafe-the west location on lake austin blvd.
Hey Brian, did you ever work with a guy named Bill there at Magnolia? I think he was manager there once. may still. Ex-teacher. Super cool.
bill sparks? i think he was a teacher. he's still there.
yeah, that guy! I haven't seen him in years. Please tell him Stacey says hi.
that is, unless you don't get along. then, never mind.
whether or not i get along with bill is a day to day kind of thing. i will tell him you said hi.
