je me jetée

My French has not improved as of late and I think it's time to do something about it, even though every time I say I'm moving to France my friends roll their eyes as if to challenge yet another empty threat. Even I wonder if I have the courage to do it.
Writing for this Non-Aligned Pact has allowed some time for introspection and I have noticed that I'm besieged by an insatiable wanderlust.
One might have thought that excursions to San Diego, the Pacific coast of Mexico, Amsterdam, London, Barcelona, Iowa, Montreal, Budapest, Berlin, Leipzig, Miami, Utah & Wyoming in the last year and a half would have quenched some of this thirst. Instead, I've recognized it as an affliction that is only growing worse; I'm unable to find any horizon, perpetually planning the next great escape. This thirst interferes with actually accomplishing anything.
I comfort myself with the belief that it is vain to want to actually accomplish anything. That's one of my better defense mechanisms- one that works disturbingly well when sitting on a rooftop in New York overwhelmed by all of the other realized vanities of architects, developers, planners, and real estate hacks in the form of buildings.

Some sort of horizon might just be found by finishing a half-way designed 8-story building, producing some renderings for a project in Williamsburg, and finally, by devoting enough attention to an unfinished website so that 'site under construction' banner can finally be removed.
Then, I will move to France.
Until I get there, my virtual presence here will be diminished. It has been my profound pleasure to post & comment along with my fellow bloggers, ardent followers, and random anonymous assholes at NAP. Added to the list of places I would like to get to in my short lifetime are North Carolina and New Zealand, as well as revisits to Austin, Houston and Chicago for the purpose of sharing an ice-cold foamy one with y'all at some sort of live music event. Until then, cheers!

The first shot is Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty so I'm assuming they are all from the Salt Lake area.
Btw that's the best shot of SJ that I've ever seen.
Don't be a stranger Heidi, and happy travels :)
hey guys, thanks! the photos were indeed taken last Monday (March 31st) at the Spiral Jetty, which is in the Great Salt Lake just west of Brigham. we were very happy the thing wasn't submerged after traveling by some guidant missile testing station and over four cattle guards to get there.
it was a bit like i imagine being on the moon would be. very quiet. bizarre empty landscape all around. that last shot is of the salty foam that was washing up along the shore.
Farewell and good luck with everything Bluebird.
thanks heidi,
Your posts alwasy made the blog look so...international jetsetter. :)
Bluebird - check out the Bjork Wanderlust video on this page and the related "making of" video. I think you'll like it.
Ramon, I am making efforts to reduce my carbon footprint...
Carlos, I don't think I'll manage to disappear completely.
Wednesday, what an apposite video- you have no idea. Here's another video from Bloody Jumpsuit, related to being inspired by nature in a way that isn't fit for NYTimes descriptions. Heh heh.
