Maximum Linkage

This week I only have the funny links, so let’s get right to that.

Mexico’s emo wars.

Songs from 2007 mashup. I think I’ve heard maybe one of those.

Muppet NWA. There seems to be a passel of videos featuring the corruption of Muppets. Hooray for inexpensive and easy to use software.

Yes, that’s Bon Scott, looking considerably Muppet-like himself.

There are lots of horrible YouTube videos that have their problems, but this one…where to start?

Finally, a not-so-funny one. Radiohead invite you to remix a song. It seems to be the same idea as the Eno and Byrne remix project; even the font is similar (note that Radiohead’s name actually comes from a Talking Heads song). Homage or shameless copycats? What’s the biggest difference between the Eno/Byrne site and Radiohead’s? Radiohead make you pay for the “stem” tracks.

The Dismemberment Plan beat both Radiohead and Eno/Byrne to it by years and years, but don’t have as good of publicists.

Yeah, I know lots of others have done it too, but it’s all the similarities between Radiohead and Eno/Byrne that I found interesting.

It never ceases to amaze me how often something new comes along to remind me why I quit psychedelics.

Fuck, that Leningrad Cowboys shitpile will haunt me for days.

    I hate you, Justin.

I hugely enjoyed the Leningrad Cowboys clip when I saw it earlier this week. The costumes, choir, dancers, weird traditional instruments…hell they even bothered to block out some of their movements to bits of the lyrics.

Thank you, Leningrad Cowboys. Your effort’s been good for four viewings and roughly nine wasted minutes of my week.

    1. I’m over muppets on youtube. Except C is for Cookie.

    2. Who else had no clue that Bon Scott was once a gay gigantic bong flute playing lumberjack?

    3. What are they singing at the tail end of Sweet Home Alabama? I loved it anyway.

I’m more confused after the Leningrad Cowboys train wreck than I was after reading the galactic, Carl Sagan, music of the spheres post a few days ago. Good work Justin.
Oh yeah, emo bashing in Mexico. If I was walking down the wrong street in Juarez looking emo, I would only have myself to blame.

The Leningrad Cowboys have been around for ages; I think Aki Kaurismaki did LENINGRAD COWBOYS GO AMERICA! back in the early 90′s. I thought they were a joke band then, but maybe they have a Spinal Tap-esque sort of life where they were lifted off the screen and into life.

Addendum: Wikipedia confirms this to be true, except that the film was from 1989. Also, apparently they have their own brand of beer!

I have heard it many times before, so I tried to figure out what it is, but all I know is that it’s a Russian dirge so I couldn’t find anything more about it (I even listened to several examples of Russian funeral music).

It’s the Volga Boat Song, which is one of the first songs I learned to play on piano when I took piano lessons as a little kid.
