Brannon - Hi! And that's a great idea (and Stacey that's your ad script right there too).

At the last place I worked, we had a small bakery deliver a bunch of goods every Friday morning along with a lock box. It was based on the honor system - you take something, you put your money in the box. Worked pretty good until the bakery owner's sister was fired from the company...then they stopped showing up.

Longtime NAP reader looking forward to visiting your shop when it opens. For what it's worth, someone orders cookies delivered to our office downtown for birthdays, etc. about once a week. If you're offering delivery, I suggest morning (pre-Aelli) sponsorship to capitalize on the "oh crap, I forgot it's Jane's birthday today" feeling that a lot of people have on their morning commutes.

Can you post the name or address of the shop so I'll know how to find you when you're open?

-brannon

yeah, you did. and that IS the weird thing about commercials on non-commercial radio. It's so weird to call and say I'd like to buy a... uh, sponsor a show. It's so confusing.
So, I feel I would like to do it anyway and fun it up and make it goofy for the people listening. There's nothing worse than having a dj read the ad as fast as they possibly can because they hate it so much. I don't know how that benefits anybody.

Drive time it is. If we can afford it.

Thanks!

oh and unspeakable - you know my one thing I wanted to do when I moved here was to get on the lake and paddle around. 12 years later I finally did it. I have yet to get to Hippy Hollow. Maybe in the next 12 years.

91.7 Houston=KTRU
91.7 Austin=KOOP day/KVRX night

I have no sage radio advice because I have next to no commercial experience and I actually think that selling sponsorship on non-commercial radio is against the rules, despite what the rulemakers seem to think. The FCC has been pretty lax on letting non-commercial stations get away with what amounts to being a commercial station.

That said, I would just get a schedule for the various stations and pick a show that might best suit your venture. I wouldn't go for kids, because I don't think they will be the ones that would go to a gourmet cookie place.

For the biggest audience think drive time, which is 6-10 AM or 3-7 PM. This is when most people listen to the radio.

Note that Aielli falls into the morning drive time slot, so I guess you'll have to go with afternoon drive time. Because you don't want to support Aielli.

Hmm. I guess I did have some advice.

Mid September in Austin, is where a great Calamity is to occur at Hippy Hollow-- where nudists from every corner of the globe will be traveling there to defend their right to swing it in the breeze. I will be there as one of a handful of carefully selected snipers to cut the breeze with my sharpshooting.

no, it's awesome. again that word.
no website yet, but by Friday late late late, one small page will be up. Later a few more.

I don't know how these radio station thingies work, especially the one at 91.7. After 12 years I still cannot get the right call letters between the Houston one and the Austin one. Anyway, I think they'll be creative enough that they'll help out. At least I hope.

Too bad you won't be around in October. What's happening mid-september in austin?

I read over my comment and realize it could have come off as totally batshit. I just got carried away with creating your radio commercial. Are you actually going to make a commercial, or will the stations just read a quick thing about your place? Actually making the commercial yourself would be so much fun. I see you won't be open til October. Website?

Give something away on your radio ad, and hire a speaker with a Shadow Stevens quality and be sure to have him specifically say "ALL THINGS MUST GO. SALES ARE FINAL. MAJOR LIQUIDATION" through a concert hall thunderdome effect processor. It also can't hurt to have the sounds of cash registers and riots in the background--peppered with small children squealing in delight and singing about confection, and be sure to have them say "Oh mum! It's so wonderful here, and I can't believe all of the yummy cakes we got for next to nothing. Can I live here Mummy, can I can I ?" And young teens can be overheard talking about the sorority babes licking icing off of their curling irons, since they just pop in before class at that location... It's such a great place to imagine. Your cookie store.

When will this place be finished? I'll be in Austin mid September.
