it’s nearly 1am in washington. the music and dancing in the street is unlike anything i’ve ever seen in this country. it reminds me of the time i was in italy during the world cup. 14th & U, the intersection where the riots started after martin luther king jr was assassinated, is now teeming with celebrating people of all races, hugging, high fiving, holding hands, singing, and mostly screaming. cars going by are honking their horns or blaring their car alarms. people have been drumming for hours. i had justin in houston on ichat via wifi, and he was on belgian tv.
happy americans are loud.
Belgian TV?? Links please…
Happy Obama day everyone!!
urgh no idea where to start with the links.
It was pretty much awesomeness here too but pretty chill as Texas was pretty clearly going to McCain. Texas going Obama would have been awesome. But still, awesomeness!
The walk out of Grant Park was all baby steps. I tried to imagine it without all the people around. I’ve walked through that park many many times but not with so much time to enjoy the scenery.
Crowded as it was – it was incredibly unthreatening, joyous and a capitalist hustle…
I bought a t-shirt that said Obamapalooza on the front (the rally was in the same spot Lollapalooza is now held every year). On the back it said “I was in Grant Park Nov 4th when change happen.”
So apparently Obama has some work to do with this national T-Shirt grammar crisis.
I dislike politics, but this really feels like a bloodless revolution. I love that. yay obama.
and I was in Italy when they won the world cup in 1982. It was total madness. Everything closed the next day and people just ran around on the streets like crazies who just escaped from the nut house. I hope everything is closed in DC today, we need a break from politics, before the real fun begins. Alas, in NC we are working, and not yet decided which was we go (though we did choose dem governor and senate).
Out of curiosity, Mr. Lost…
How much evidence by way of refuse was left in the park I wonder.
Can we just burn Bush in effigy now or what?
Actually Snake took a great picture of the trash, I’m hoping he’ll share soon.
