Mogwai is rocking me with their actionIt’s been a while since I really tore into some Mogwai. Like a lot of people, I enjoyed Young Team. But other than that record and My Father My King, I’ve not been a superfan. That said, “The Sun Smells Too Loud”, off their new record The Hawk is Howling is hitting all my pleasure centers. I wouldn’t have even heard it but for its inclusion in Matador’s free fall sampler, Intended Play. Now I can’t stop playing the damn thing. Perhaps you will have a similar response: here’s a fan-made video that uses visual dance loops to accurately convey the song’s booty-swaying potential (I’ve seen this semi-stock video footage before, but where?). I just downloaded the rest of the record this morning, so I haven’t had a chance to dig into it, but I do recommend downloading that Matador sampler. It’s got lots of great tracks, including unreleased awesomeness from A.C. Newman and Condo Fucks (a.k.a., Yo La Tengo). 6 comments to Mogwai is rocking me with their action |

I’m pretty much with you on Mogwai. I dug Young Team, liked some other stuff, and then it all tapered off from there. And for me, that was until the Unspeakable turned me back on to them when she heard Batcat on KTRU the other day. We found the Batcat video on YouTube (genius), and whatta ya know? I’m into them again.
That video is Tommy Seebach, king of danish pop. Here’s the original.
I’m not sure but i think i like the original song a little bit more than the mogwai one.
Okay. That damn video is the real story. It’s been used as stock for a crapload of videos. It’s like a minor-league video Rick Roll.
I love the youtube video info:
“Us white guys have NEVER been cool. Ever.”
I have yet to hear the record though I heard them play several tracks live. It was also their best set in the 4 times I have seen them. Their drummer had heart problems after the set related to a recently implanted pacemaker.
I actually enjoy all of their recorded output though I figured I would get to the point when it would sound like the same record similar to Stereolab but fortunately that has yet to happen. I highly encourage one and all to get as close as possible for even a short while during their live set. The volume and intensity was pretty neat.
Here is a the setlist from the set I saw at ATP.

Coming at it from another angle, the age of the original video does explain the dated dance moves.
