In lieu of my own content I therefore present,
Am digging the new Sonic Youth album, which you can listen to here [via Arturo on FB]. It seems to pick up right where they left off on Rather Ripped. This is Sonic Youth week at Pitchfork TV, with new videos every day. Here’s a peak. Love the effect tweaking. Thurston looks somber…
On Jools Holland [via Matador blog, I thought]. That bass note in the second section sounds super heavy…
Via Sir John Cramer on FB we have Bret Michaels, and my fave, soothing dog songs.

I’m digging the new SY as well (listening right now), but to me it doesn’t sound much like Rather Ripped or their more recent stuff. As others have said, it seems more in the vein of Dirty or Washing Machine.
As much as I love Rather Ripped and Sonic Nurse, the pleasures of the new record are more immediate and visceral. It’s bad-ass.
I’m with Marshall. Waiting for my Matador copy to drop in my mailbox. Hope it will happen today. And that Antenna live version is sabrosa.
I was gonna say y’alls are trippin’, but I guess I can hear a some Dirty on the first two tracks. But mostly it sounds to me like a more compelling version of what they’ve been developing the past album or two. But I guess I haven’t listened enough times yet for a full assessment. Man, I really want to see them live again, but next time they hit Oakland it’s $35 + $10 of Ticketshafting, ugh.
Just bought the new SY today, and I’m digging it as well. I like the blend of classic SY angles and noise (and playful abruptness) with the more open-ended spacier stuff of later releases. Pretty solid after a handful of listens. I’m looking forward to giving it time to breathe as well.
