Never Hear the End of It

I was very into Sloan’s first album, the MBV-influenced Smeared, but was turned off by their sophomore effort Twice Removed and never really got around to listening to them much after that. But I have since really gotten into their 2006 release “Never Hear the End of It”, which features 30 songs (most in the 1, 2, or 3 minute range) that all run together without pauses. I thought it would be fun to make a condensed song containing representative clips from each song on the album, so I did just that. The clips are in order, and are in the 7-15 second range, usually about 10 seconds each. Some of the clip transitions work better than others, but I’ve already spent way too much time on this so they’ll have to do. It sounds a bit like those radio ads for (e.g.) Night Ranger that switch from snippet to snippet of the many hits you can expect to hear at their state fair gig. Except, of course, with some excellent power pop.

  • I enjoyed this immensely.

And thanks to the new Emusic terms and conditions, this record is now favorably priced at only 12 downloads despite its 30 tracks. When my downloads refresh tomorrow, this is the first thing I’m downloading.

  • I am listening to this imagining you doing a voice-over deal in between hits: “watch them pull this one out of their ass,” “you won’t be denied this creamy snack,” “here’s another shot for your orifices.”

    • That’s so funny, cuz my original plan was actually to do a voice-over while it played, like “listen to the rad guitar tone right here” (rather than anything regarding creamy snacks), but then realized recording it so both would be audible might be tricky, so thought of alternating the clips & me or dividing it left/right, then just thought of writing song by song comments in the post, and then finally was like, fuck it, I’m already a day and half late on this post and they kinda speak for themselves.
