Don’t Listen to This Podcast If You Suck

And you do suck but you’ll probably listen anyway because you don’t know it. But this wasn’t an exclusitory remark; this was a warning because some where in hear you’re gonna realize that you suck.

Big Time.

In Other News

Me and the boys get together up at the space on Friday nights, call it Freaky Fridays of course.

We make soundscapes and sometimes try to use video too.

Usually one of us will shoot off an email during the week with a game plan for Freaky Friday –some set of rules we can use or break.

This week I sent this:

Subject: project idea: read this when you have time to be distracted by awesomeness
Groove Loops

  1. Figure out all the different ways we have at the studio to create loops and samples.
  2. Set up these means of creating loops and samples.
  3. Create three pieces either in a one-man band style where one person at a time creates a song by looping several instruments OR by each of us creating a loop that gets combined with each other’s creations.
  4. Ideally, in my mind, this wouldn’t be all digital. Would be great to create samples from acoustic instruments -even drums! (I’ve seen that done live before).

Question – what means do we have at our disposal for creating acoustic instrument loops?

It’s an old idea, I know. Hell, Drums And Tuba was doing some wicked stuff playing over themselves live (even looping their drums) over a decade ago. But for me, there’s still some exploring to do. I’m especially interested in getting the acoustic sounds looped. Anybody have any advice in this arena?
