Here are some things I found on the internet this week.
It’s apparently perfectly okay to play ringtones without paying royalties now. I guess that means that certain companies will stop trying to charge customers to use a ringtone that the already own, right? Not that I use anything but an actual ringing tone on my phone, but if I own a song I should be able to play The Doobie Brothers every time I flush, if that’s what I want, without having to pay off Michael McDonald to do so. Actually, come to think of it, this will probably lead to more annoying ringtones. Maybe it’s not such a good thing after all.
I saw Where the Wild Things Are last night, which I don’t have much to say about, other than that I found it to be annoyingly sentimental and filled with mediocre Karen O music. I shouldn’t be surprised that I didn’t like the soundtrack, because I haven’t exactly liked anything she’s done previously. In this case, she was apparently going for something that sounded like Daniel Johnston–she even covered Johnston’s “Worried Shoes,” which director Spike Jonze used throughout the movie. By the way, Karen O’s version of this song really owes more to the Kathy McCarty version than it does to the Daniel Johnston version.
Anyway, here’s a video from a different Spike Jones:
And finally, these clowns:

And the recording industry can’t figure out why consumers hate them. Paid for each ring? That’s so goofy.
