Rova Saxophone Quartet member Larry Ochs nearly arrested in a foreign land for not being jazzy enough for a jazz purist who “claimed his doctor had warned it was ‘psychologically inadvisable’ for him to listen to anything that could be mistaken for mere contemporary music”. The Nazz “Open My Eyes” – When I was in Amoeba Music on Thursday, they were rocking this tune on the sound system, and since then it has been my jam (apologies to E.S.). The opening especially is awesome. It’s a fun ditty to play on guitar, too.
When the four of them are playing on the hill at 0:52, it reminds me of the classic Hey Ya, Charlie Brown!. Of course, this being the internet, I was then led to “A Charlie Brown Heavy Metal Christmas”. And there appears to be hundreds of other such variations on the ‘tube, should you be so interested.
