Week 166: Happy New Year!

Well, it’s New Year’s Eve, and we are having the first of what I hope will be many NYE parties. My grandparents, Nanana y Pachu, siempre had NYE parties. Even after he passed away, she continued to have NYE parties until just a few years ago. I think she was already in her 90s when she stopped. So all my growing up we had NYE parties, and even after I’d moved to the U.S. many of the friends I grew up with would stop by the house for NYE.

Nanana is barely with us these days. Literally in her last leg after they had to amputate one of her legs and in a home cause she just would not take instructions from anyone in her own house and actually threw things at a nurse who wouldn’t let her do as she pleased – go for a drive, go to the casino, do the things she used to do before Alzheimers. So I’m hoping to continue the NYE tradition with yearly parties and maybe years from now when my daughter is off exploring the world, her friends who still live in town will come to our NYE parties.

At midnight we throw water out of the house, a glass, a bucket, turn on the house and aim it at the street… cleanse the palate as it where. A Spanish amiga is coming over so we’ll also be having grapes, yum… And we’ll be toasting con champagna… If my daughter makes it to midnight (i think she will), I think I’ll let her try the bubbly para el brindis.

So happy new year everyone. Here’s to the fourth year of NAP being in existence! Salud, dinero y amor, y tiempo para disfrutarlos.
