Late Again

Watched American Hardcore, about the early ’80s US hardcore punk scene. I always find that story and the stories within extremely fascinating, but unfortunately I find most of that fast fast fast scream scream scream music intensely boring. In fact, I think the music I loved most in it was from San Francisco punks Flipper, who were introduced as the band that tried to antagonize their audiences by playing exactly what they didn’t want to hear (slow, plodding music). That’s a great attitude to pull out once in a while when things get to conformtational. “Way of the World” from 1982:

This week was digging on Paisley Undergrounders the Rain Parade, particularly their 1984 mini-LP Explosions in the Glass Palace. Interview + “No Easy Way Down”:

Every now and then I pull out Syrup USA’s All Over the Land, which is a great great pop record. Features Seana Carmody, ex of The Swirlies. Here’s some rare footage on the ‘tube from 1996. Audio is distorted but you can get the picture. I think I saw them at Emo’s that year…?
