Joy Division “Dead Souls”
Finally watched Anton Corbijn’s Control. Pretty well done, although I was irritated they were using a modern platinum Gibson SG Special and a modern Eastwood clone of a Vox guitar at points. It’s funny how much Ian Curtis sounds like Jim Morrison.
Finally watched Herzog’s The Wild Blue Yonder. I found the alien character so irritating that I almost stopped watching after five minutes. I think Werner really blew a chance here. I dug the cool footage, but come on, the storyline was kinda stupid. I guess it did at least bring up the idea that space travel to other human-habitable planets is pretty much impossible. This comment indicates the US DVD may have its audio 8% too fast, which could perhaps partially account for why I found the alien so annoying.
Anyway, the music was totally amazing. I had no idea what it was, but turns out WH got some Dutch cello guy named Ernst Reijseger together with Senegalese singer Mola Sylla and a Sardinian choir called Tenore e Cuncordu de Orosei. Just that he had the idea of doing this is amazing. Anyway, it would be great if a soundtrack was ever released.
The Pretenders “Middle of the Road”
Just cuz.
