How much Catalan have you heard? Here’s Élena, a Catalan band singing in Catalan. Sweet song and a walk through Barcelona in one shot.
And here’s an older song by Catalan artist Joan Manuel Serrat, also in Catalan, and also a one shot video, though a much shorter and less scenic walk.
Trivia: Serrat was selected to sing this song as Spain’s entry into the Eurovision Song Contest of 1968. But he insisted that he would only sing it in Catalan and not in Spanish. General Franco’s government, who regularly suppressed any expressions of Catalonian, or for that matter any non-Castillian, nationalism quickly removed him from the contest. Instead the Ye Ye-esque singer Massiel sang Serrat’s song in Spanish and won that year’s contest, defeating England’s entry, Jimmy Cliff.
