Fox and Badger were friends.
One day Badger was taking a shower and he was in a good mood. He started singing.
I got to toot a toot out maw poot poot
poot poot tooty aw maw oot oot
Fox was in the living room where he could hear Badger singing. He started to laugh.
Later Fox told Badger that he should make a show and sing that song and make some money.
Badger didn’t think so. But Fox encouraged him more. The song was so funny.
So Badger did do it. And A lot of people came to the show. They thought the song was funny too so Badger did some more shows.
Soon Badger had done a lot of shows. He and Fox made a lot of money. Then one day Fox met Badger backstage after one of Badger’s show.
Badger looked sad. Fox asked Badger why he looked so sad. Badger said he could no longer sing the Toot Poot song. He needed to go home and write a new song. Fox was worried. He thought Badger should still sing the Poot Toot song.
The next time Badger had a show he did not sing the Poot Toot song. He sang his new song. It was slow and sad. Badger closed his eyes while he sang it.
Shall we overcome
all that comes before us
When he was done singing his eyes were watery and his face was wet with tears. But nobody liked his new song. Nobody clapped. It was completely quiet. People asked for Poot Toot but Badger didn’t move. Some people booed. Finally people started to leave. And Badger, his face full of tears, left the stage too.
Fox really came down on Badger. He told him that even he thought the new song was horrible. But Badger said he wouldn’t sing Poot Toot.
Badger played a few more shows but he soon stopped because nobody came to his shows any more. So Badger gave up the business and picked berries.
One day Badger was taking a shower and he started singing.
Wally willy welly wet n willy
till the belly isn’t smelly till it’s cuhhuhleeeeeeeeeeeeean
Fox was in the living room where he could hear Badger singing. He started to laugh. He ran to tell Badger. He wanted Badger to start singing again.
Badger really liked his new song. He wanted to sing again. He thought about it and told Fox that he would do it if he could also sing his sad song. Fox looked sad. He didn’t like that idea. He suggested he play Poot Toot instead. Badger said he would play Poot Toot too but only if he could sing his sad song.
Badger started the first show with his new song Wally Willy. Everybody clapped. They cheered too. Badger closed his eyes. He started to sing his sad song. The crowd grew quiet but not the type of quiet that is in anticipation but in disappointment. Badger continued to sing. He closed his eyes. He started to cry. When he was finished singing he felt that it was the best he had every sung it. But nobody clapped. Still, nobody liked his sad song. He sat still for only a little bit and then –
I got to toot a toot out my poot poot
poot poot tooty aw maw oot oot
