I have a very quick post this week extolling in exceeding brevity the virtues of the Roots’ How I Got Over – why? It is the express line straight through, no unnecessary pauses, no pauses period, densely packed, no ridiculous flights of fancy – it’s just delicious and delectable from cover to cover. Ridiculous that a band that’s been around so very many years would put together such a workmanlike yet high-quality album. Ridiculous. This is the period where they should be engaging in Liverpool Oratorio-like hijinx, yet this album is a bullet rather than an ornate construction. It’s all meat. And it’s all quite juicy. Of note is the following, which will probably put me in a place where I will finally FINALLY actually listen to the Joanna Newsom I have archived:
And especially nice is to compare it to the original. Just have them both running at the same time. It’s like Zaireeka but entirely different.
