Double reprieve

I’m going to say three rather bland things tonight and regroup for a longer post next week:

1. I just moved and have taken this opportunity to rediscover nooks and crannies of my music collection that have to do with slow builds. That’s for next week.

2. I also like the new Arcade Fire a lot. But I will not write about it except perhaps in part in the future. (see number 1)

3. I have long thought of Maine as a cultural pit, a place where artistic ideas go to die. What I’ve long suspected, though, and have finally come into full contact with is the difference between the cultural life that surrounds Portland (the big city, where I now live) as opposed to what happens elsewhere. While there are places outside Portland (Rockland, for instance, with its massive infusion of galleries and burgeoning music scene) that offer tastes of culture, nothing quite rivals Portland. And where I had always thought there were only a few options even in Portland for the music fans among us, a few bike rides and walks around town on even a Monday night have shown otherwise. I think I’m going to like it here.

But due to the sheer exhaustion of replacing one life with another, I’m going to give my imagined post another week to marinate. Please enjoy the highlights of my daily early morning bike ride:
