I went to SXSW for the last and (embarrassingly and inexcusably) first time back in 2007. Ever since, I’ve been meaning to do a write-up for NAP, but the procrastination machine has arrested my initiation of, let alone progress on, the matter. It would be nice if I did it soon, though, to [...] Folke Rabe’s What?? is one of my favorite records, but it’s not funny like this. Watched American Hardcore, about the early ’80s US hardcore punk scene. I always find that story and the stories within extremely fascinating, but unfortunately I find most of that fast fast fast scream scream scream music intensely boring. In fact, I think the music I loved most in it was from San Francisco [...] Joy Division “Dead Souls” Finally watched Anton Corbijn’s Control. Pretty well done, although I was irritated they were using a modern platinum Gibson SG Special and a modern Eastwood clone of a Vox guitar at points. It’s funny how much Ian Curtis sounds like Jim Morrison. At some point in 1997, I bought issue no. 1 of “Music” magazine for $4.00 plus tax at 33 Degrees in Austin. It was an obscure fanzine with a strong graphic sense and an avant-garde bent focused on a NYC/Tokyo axis. The pages included ads for Boredoms Super Roots 6, interviews with Gary [...] Playlist here, if you prefer. No “Chariots”, but “Tal Zalmaan” instead, shot in Barcelona. Taking over Portland. Wish there was more, as it’s really a perfect [...] Ah, the silly titles continue unabated. This mix took form in July 2009. CD’s available upon request or by precedent, lossy files here. Conceived of as early as a year ago, dated March 2009 when the sequence was fairly well in place, and only finalized yesterday after much indecision about volumes and edits.
